Ciara Riordan is an award-winning Irish journalist, presenter and international conference moderator, known for engaging global audiences across broadcast, digital and live events.

Ciara has presented across BBC News digital platforms to millions of viewers worldwide.

​​

Her interview with Sir David Attenborough went viral after she asked what animal he would be for a day — his answer: a sloth.

​​

She has reported live on major global stories too, including the Westminster and Manchester attacks, bringing clarity and calm to fast-moving breaking news.​

 

Ciara regularly moderates and hosts global conferences including Web Summit, SXSW London, and the World AI Summit, interviewing leading figures across media, sport and technology - including Sir Mo Farah.

Alongside her on-screen work, Ciara is a senior journalist at BBC News, where she has spent over a decade working across television, digital and live breaking news.

​​

She has also led a global social team and helped grow BBC News social platforms to over 250 million followers.

​​

The Cork native has a strong interest in women’s health and has presented BBC News social live discussions on topics including endometriosis, PCOS, PMDD and perimenopause - helping bring important conversations to wider audiences.

With over 20 years of experience in international newsrooms, Ciara combines editorial authority with a natural on-screen presence and the ability to connect with audiences in the moments that matter most.​​​

Ciara has worked as a presenter and reporter for BBC World TV News, and as a broadcast journalist for BBC Breakfast TV in the UK.

 

She began her career in Ireland and Australia across radio and television.

 

Her early career includes roles with Newstalk, RTÉ, Radio Kerry - where she hosted a breakfast show - and ABC NewsRadio in Sydney.
